Where Are They Now? Catching Up With Former Interns

Our college interns are exceptional young people who provide behind-the-scenes support for our programs and operations. They conduct research, help manage our data, support our curriculum, assist with fundraising, administer long-term surveys, create graphics, and so much more. Perhaps above all, they bring a welcome and fresh perspective to our work.

In honor of our 10th anniversary, we decided to catch up with a few of our former college interns to find out what they’re doing now and how their experiences at Negotiation Works influenced their professional paths.

Shira Hoffer

Intern, summer 2022

Shira describes her Negotiation Works summer internship as β€œa big step in solidifying my passion for conflict resolution.” She found it β€œpowerful to see how [these] life skills can make a big difference for folks in adverse situations.” Shira graduated from Harvard College in 2025 and founded The Viewpoints Project, a youth-centered nonprofit focused on creating a culture where young people can navigate disagreements with authenticity and curiosity. She currently serves as the organization’s Executive Director.

Haley Resnick

Intern, 2022-2023

Haley shares her biggest takeaway from her internship: β€œI appreciated how Negotiation Works always put people first, continually thinking about ways to better serve the community.” Several years later, she reflects on other lessons from the experience that she applies in her own life: β€œNow, whether in personal or professional conflicts, I find myself thinking more carefully as I approach a negotiation, drawing on many of the lessons I picked up while observing Negotiation Works’ courses.” After graduating from Georgetown University, Haley served as a Teach For America Fellow. She now teaches first and second grade while pursuing opportunities to advance educational equity.

Anita Vazquez

Intern, 2023-2024

Anita was impressed by Negotiation Works’ β€œemphasis on community-based healing.” As she explains, β€œEducation is vital and goes hand-in-hand…with the healing journey of marginalized groups.” After graduating from Georgetown University, Anita moved to the Chicago area. She volunteers with NGOs focused on migrants & human rights and environmental issues and works as a Passport Specialist with the U.S. Department of State based in Chicago. Anita credits her experience with Negotiation Works as propelling her to engage in leadership training at work to become a leader herself. In 2027, Anita will pursue an MSc. in International Migration & Public Policy at the London School of Economics.

Natalie Gilbert

Intern, 2023-2024

What stood out to Natalie from her internship was the dedication of Negotiation Works’ volunteers: β€œThe absolutely wonderful network of people, across such a range of experiences, all so dedicated to Negotiation Works’ mission, was incredibly inspiring to me.” The internship also influenced her professional aspirations: β€œNegotiation Works helped me develop professionally, build my advocacy skills, and better identify what I hope to pursue long term.” After graduating from Georgetown University, Natalie worked as a legislative assistant at a law firm for two years. This fall, she started law school at Harvard.

Mihret Willis

Intern, 2024-2025

β€œSeeing how negotiation and communication skills can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives” impressed Mihret during her year-long internship. She describes Negotiation Works’ impact on her own professional and personal growth: β€œProfessionally, the communication skills and tools I learned helped me advocate for myself and communicate more effectively. In my personal life, the experience taught me the importance of listening and understanding different perspectives.” Mihret graduated from American University in 2025 and is working in the legal field, supporting attorneys with document review, eDiscovery, investigations, and trial preparation as a Document Management Analyst at CACI International.
